Here’s What’s Unique About Our Evening IOP

Group of people in an evening IOP meeting

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) are an essential aspect of care for people struggling with overcoming addiction. For many clients, inpatient care, whether in a clinic, rehab center, hospital, or another treatment facility, can be challenging or simply not feasible. For some, the typical IOP may not even fit into their regular schedule. An evenings-only IOP is ideal for clients that prefer or actually need to undergo addiction treatment during the nighttime. Clients like this often work, go to class, or take care of their children while pursuing addiction recovery. Daytime treatment would be difficult to schedule for them, so an IOP that offers all the same components and also offers sessions during the nighttime would be beneficial.

When looking for evening IOP options near Boston, consider Rockland Recovery. Our evening intensive outpatient program helps people receive the treatment they need while accommodating their busy schedules. How Does an IOP Fit into Drug Rehab?

The path to addiction recovery is different for every client. Sometimes IOP is the best drug rehab option for someone based on their schedule, but an IOP recovery is not always the best to support recovery overall. Many treatment facilities offer different levels of addiction treatment and follow a gradual approach to wellness. For example, clients who are still at a high risk of relapsing due to situations such as a dual diagnosis or a long history of addiction may need the comprehensive and structured care provided by a residential program.

As they grow stronger and start healing more, they may transition to a partial hospitalization program (PHP). Clients that have gained enough control over their substance use disorder may return to living at home and transition into an IOP. If undergoing treatment sessions during the day isn’t feasible, clients may choose to transition into an evening IOP. These programs are intensive and are usually not the first step in a client’s formal addiction treatment path.

Who Is the Ideal Participant for an IOP?

In what situations is an IOP not the best drug rehab program for a client? Someone should consider another type of addiction treatment program if they have:

  • A dual diagnosis
  • A packed school schedule
  • A severe substance use disorder
  • Conditions that require 24-hour care and supervision
  • Children or other dependents who depend on them for daily care
  • Financial or legal trouble that needs to be sorted out
  • Full-time employment
  • Household members who drink or use drugs

For clients like these, IOPs are often not the best choice. However, some may find that evening IOPs don’t conflict with their busy schedule and choose to get admitted into an IOP anyway. A busy schedule is not the only reason to undergo an IOP. Sometimes intensive treatment is not enough, and immersive, 24-hour attention is essential. In cases like this, residential treatment would be the better choice.

What Is an Evening Intensive Outpatient Program?

The benefits of IOPs get even better for evening IOPs. They’re the same as other IOPs, but they hold sessions during the nighttime. This means that evening IOPs aid the recovery of clients that may need to keep their daytime hours to themselves.

Typically, an evening IOP requires clients to participate several hours during the night, multiple days a week. Most treatments involve therapy, such as group, family, and individual options. Activities like acupuncture or massage can also be included. However, these components are not rigidly scheduled, and the program is very flexible. Evening IOPs allow clients to rebuild their lives while working on their addiction recovery.

While the evening IOP offers a logical next step for some clients in residential treatment, it can also be an appropriate first step for clients that don’t need full-time care but need intense care.
