Are you or someone you care about considering getting admitted into an alcohol or drug addiction treatment program? There’s no better time to get your facts straight and shatter the myths about addictive substances and addiction than the National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week (NDAFW).

The NDAFW of 2022 happens between Monday, March 21 to Sunday, March 27. During this week, scientists and other experts come together to discuss how addictive substances affect the brain, the body, and the behaviors of people. Events like this occur at events in communities and schools all over the country and encourage people to get the addiction treatment they need to be successful.

At Rockland Recovery, we provide a range of addiction treatment options, such as our drug addiction treatment program. If you or a loved one might benefit from drug and alcohol addiction treatment in Massachusetts, Rockland Recovery might be the right place for recovery. Contact our team today by calling 855.732.4842 or filling out our online contact form for more information about National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week or our Massachusetts drug and alcohol rehab center.

What Is National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week?

National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week is an annual week-long observance that inspires dialogue about the science of addictive substance use and addiction, particularly how they affect the youth.

The NDAFW was launched in 2010 by scientists at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and has been observed every year since. During this week, each year, educational events in communities and schools teach teens what science has discovered about addictive substances and addiction. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) became a partner of NIDA in launching NDAFW in 2016. NIDA and NIAAA are part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) of the United States.

Signs Someone Needs To Get Admitted Into Rehab

If you’re worried that addictive substance use has gotten out of control for you or someone you care about, you should make sure that your suspicion is based on observable signs.

Some signs to watch out for:

  • Addictive behaviors are causing problems in relationships – Addiction may cause someone to engage in risky behavior or act inappropriately more often. This can damage family, social, and work relationships.
  • Addictive substance dosage is increasing – When someone first uses an addictive substance, they may feel the effects intensely. Over time, their body begins to tolerate the addictive substance in their system. When they’re tolerant, their body needs more of the addictive substance in each dose to produce the same intense outcome.
  • Drug use has become the main priority – If looking for and taking the addictive substance consumes a person’s thoughts throughout the day, they’re probably addicted. If they prioritize the addictive substance over spending time with people and passions previously important to them, it may be time to talk about getting professional help.
  • Physical and mental health is deteriorating – Different addictive substances have different adverse effects on a person’s physical and psychological health. For example, alcohol addiction is linked to the development of liver problems and many types of cancer.
  • Unsuccessful attempts to quit: When people are unable to overcome addiction on their own, addiction treatment is often the best option. There’s no shame in seeking help from those that know precisely how to deal with addiction in a professional setting.
