Why Choose an Evening IOP?

If you or someone you care about wants to overcome a substance use disorder but doesn’t have time for professional inpatient care, consider an evening intensive outpatient program (IOP). When it comes to formal addiction treatment programs, you’ll find that there are various levels of care offered by treatment centers. These levels of care can range from medically supervised inpatient programs, residential treatment programs, and partial hospitalization programs (PHPs) to IOPs or outpatient programs. Higher levels provide more medical care and clinical supervision. However, each level of care corresponds to different needs of a client, depending on their history with addiction or where they are in their recovery process.

At Rockland Recovery, our experienced team provides an evening intensive outpatient program for those who want to leave addiction behind. Learn more about evening IOP benefits at Rockland Recovery today by calling 855.732.4842 or completing our online form.

What Is an Evening IOP?

Evening addiction treatment is almost the same as a daytime IOP or afternoon IOP. The only difference is the time of the addiction treatment sessions. An evening IOP can also be called a night IOP because these programs have addiction treatment sessions during the evenings.

IOPs are programs used to treat and manage addictions, depression, eating disorders, or other mental health issues that don’t require 24-hour medical supervision. IOPs allow clients to continue living their everyday lives in a way that inpatient programs don’t. Residential treatment requires clients to reside in an addiction treatment facility, while an IOP allows clients to live at home throughout the program.

Typical evening IOPs have group therapy sessions from three to five days a week, along with a weekly individual therapy session. IOPs like this are ideal for clients who struggle to maintain their sobriety long-term.

Evening IOP Benefits

There are many evening IOP benefits for people in recovery. One of the evening IOP benefits is the freedom to set and maintain school or work appointments during the daytime without worrying about it coinciding with addiction treatment sessions. Living at home while having access to intensive addiction treatment is also an excellent benefit, especially if residential treatment is less affordable for a client.

Addiction treatment sessions in the evenings also give clients enough time and energy to strengthen family relationships and socialize with close friends during the daytime. In fact, clients that have completed a PHP or a residential treatment program often find it easier to reintegrate back into society while participating in an evening IOP. The latter provides structure and support that can help a client keep their focus on addiction recovery while they adjust to returning to their family lives and career paths.

Goals of an Evening IOP

The goals of each IOP, whether it’s a daytime IOP, afternoon IOP, or night IOP, may vary depending on the mental health issue it’s designed to treat. Other factors that may affect an IOP’s goals and components include a client’s medical history and support needs.

For example, clients struggling with substance use disorders can learn tools to help them maintain sobriety and identify possible triggers for relapse as part of their IOP. Some components of an IOP may mirror parts of typical addiction treatment programs. In cases like this, its inclusion in an IOP serves to underscore its importance in recovery and allows clients to practice using the lessons in real-life situations.

Common evening IOP goals include:

  • Developing enhanced self-awareness
  • Identifying unhealthy behaviors
  • Improving problem-solving skills
  • Practicing asking for and receiving support
  • Teaching participants coping skills
