What to Expect in Evening IOP

a man goes through intensive outpatient program preparation

An intensive outpatient program (IOP) is an excellent continuation of addiction treatment for individuals who have recently completed an inpatient program and are ready to reintegrate into their daily lives. At Rockland Recovery, we offer both day and evening IOPs to provide various options for clientsโ€™ schedules. For many of our clients in Massachusetts, evening intensive outpatient programs offer flexibility to attend work or school during the day while attending sessions at night.

If you or a loved one are interested in an evening IOP, contact Rockland Recovery today at 855.732.4842.

What To Expect In Evening IOP

When looking for an addiction treatment program, it can be challenging to discern what makes each program different. Both day and evening IOPs at Rockland Recovery are the same in structure and treatment, with the only difference being the time of day sessions are held. During these sessions, we offer a wide range of therapies and activities to support our clients through recovery. Many sessions are group therapy but also include individual therapy, family therapy, and holistic approaches.

Clients are at a vulnerable point when they begin addiction recovery treatment. Starting a program can be intimidating, and many people do not know what to expect in an evening IOP. When you enter an evening IOP at Rockland Recovery, you should expect to attend 3-hour block sessions at the facility 3-4 times a week. Most of our clients spend around 12 weeks in an IOP but are welcome to stay longer if needed.

During their time in the IOP, our clients gain:

  • A safe space to share thoughts and emotions
  • A sober community
  • A strong support network of peers and professionals
  • Life skills such as communication, nutrition, and mindfulness
  • Coping skills
  • A new lease on life

Evening Intensive Outpatient Program

When considering if an evening IOP is the right choice for you, it is crucial to understand what is included:

Create an Individual Wellness Plan

The first step for our clients starting our evening IOP in Massachusetts is to create an individual wellness plan with their therapist. Each client receives individual therapy sessions throughout the week, working with the same therapist to identify goals, motivations, and actions to reach those goals.

Once the client identifies goals, their therapist guides them through creating weekly schedules of what they may want to discuss in group therapy and activities that interest them, such as yoga or art class. Building a solid foundation at the beginning of an evening IOP helps clients stay on track, learn accountability, and maintain sobriety.

Therapy Sessions

Evening intensive outpatient programs primarily consist of group therapy sessions. Group therapy is highly effective in assisting clients at this point in recovery as it provides them with a safe space to share thoughts and feelings and receive coping tips from peers. These sessions also give clients a strong support network of sober peers and professionals to turn to when they struggle with urges or any challenges in life.

In addition to group therapy, all our clients receive individual weekly sessions. During these sessions, the client and therapist may work through past traumas, negative thoughts and emotions, and coping skills through therapeutic techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). These sessions are crucial to our clients’ success as they provide them with a private place to share things they may not feel comfortable sharing in a group session. Additionally, it is important to have one-on-one time to work on individual goals and motivations.

Holistic Approaches

Rockland Recovery is committed to providing both evidence-based treatment and holistic approaches. The mind, body, and soul are interconnected and should all be cared for equally. Therefore, we offer our clients a broad range of holistic activities, such as meditation, acupuncture, and massages. Clients may choose which activities they wish to attend each week. Holistic activities such as yoga or meditation provide clients with coping skills, reduce stress and anxiety, and, when combined with therapy, create a well-rounded tool kit for our clients when they complete the program.
